UEFA Euro 2024: Austria's Danso apologizes for Mbappé's broken nose | Euro 2024 news

An unintentional collision with Austrian Kevin Danso caused French superstar Kylian Mbappé to suffer a broken nose.

Austrian player Kevin Danso sent a message of condolence to French forward Kylian Mbappé, who broke his nose when colliding with the defender's shoulder during their Euro 2024 match.

“I wish him a good recovery and hope he can quickly return to the field,” Danso said Tuesday on social media platform X about the injury suffered during France's 1-0 victory over Austria.

“To the French fans: I am sorry that Kylian Mbappé was injured in our duel,” added Danso, who had his back turned when Mbappé's face hit his shoulder.

The 25-year-old French talisman was putting on a brave face, even asking his social media followers to suggest ideas for a mask that could allow him to play in France's next match against the Netherlands on Friday.

That sparked an avalanche of memes online.

Mbappe left the field to receive treatment for his bloody nose during Monday's match, but returned minutes later and sat on the field, prompting boos from Austrian fans and a yellow card for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The French soccer federation said Mbappé was back in the team camp after hospital treatment without the need for immediate surgery and that a mask was being prepared.
