By replacing President Joe Biden with Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party has breathed new life into a disastrous presidential campaign. But more than two months before the election, American public opinion is evenly divided between her and Republican candidate Donald Trump.

Harris has presented herself as the young, progressive alternative for the country, “and now she’s made Trump look small and backward,” says Democratic strategist Simon Rosenberg. But as McClatchy national political correspondent David Catanese points out, Democrats are vulnerable on immigration and the economy, so the race is far from over.
