Washington: The president of the United States, Donald, has said that he could slapped new tariffs about China if he continues to buy oil from Russia, just like he did with India.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday, the president of the United States said that more commercial sanctions “could happen”, although it did not give any details.
Their comments occur shortly after imposing additional tariffs of 25% on Indian goods, accusing India to help Russia continue buying their oil. Now, China could be the next in row, since Washington seeks to increase pressure on countries that trade with Moscow during the Ukraine War.
“It could happen,” Trump told journalists, after saying that he hoped to announce more secondary sanctions aimed at pressing Russia to end his war in Ukraine.
He did not give more details.
“It can happen … I can't tell you yet,” Trump said. “We did it with India. We are probably doing it with a couple of others. One of them could be China.”
Trump imposed an additional 25% rate on Indian goods on Wednesday, in addition to a 25% rate announced above, citing their continuous purchases of Russian oil.
The Order of the White House did not mention China, which is another important buyer of Russian oil.
Last week, the Secretary of the United States Treasury, Scott Besent, warned China that it could also face new tariffs if he continued to buy Russian oil.
