Former President and Republican candidate for the 2024 US elections Donald Trump believes that a “coup” led by Democrats has finally forced President Joe Biden to withdraw from the presidential election race.

Former Democratic candidate Biden announced his withdrawal earlier this week after facing calls and pressure to withdraw from the presidential race.

During an interview in Fox and friends Today, Trump, without any evidence, presented his belief, adding that Biden would lose to him even if he ran for office.

“I think it was a coup. They didn’t want him to run. He was way down in the polls and they thought he was going to lose. They went to him and said, ‘You can’t win the race,’ which I think is true,” the former president said.

Trump claimed he had genuine information from people in the Democratic Party and that they were “trying to carry out a coup d’état.”

“You know, I know this from very good information. I know a lot of people on the other side, too, who went and forced him out, between (Nancy) Pelosi and (Barack) Obama and some others you see on TV,” she said. “It’s interesting. I saw them on TV and they were very well behaved. ‘Oh yeah, we love Joe. We love Joe.’ Behind the scenes, I know for a fact that they were brutal.”

Biden had also reportedly faced pressure from Democrats in private, with some party members publicly urging the president to drop out of the race.

Biden's decline began with his unimpressive public appearances, including the presidential debate in June against Trump himself, after which questions arose about the president's mental well-being and physical condition.

Shortly afterward, Democrats and the general public alike began calling for Biden to resign. Although Biden remained steadfast in his stance that he was fit to serve and lead a federal government for four more years, he dropped out of the race on July 21.

Democrats also faced backlash from Trump during the interview, as the former president accused them of interfering in his legal battles.

“All the court cases I have are driven by them. Just so you know, they push all these cases on me. They’re the ones who start them. And then they say, ‘I’m a prosecutor, he’s a criminal.’ They’re the ones who start all the cases, and I win them.”

Trump was charged in a case after he halted the peaceful transfer of power in 2021 that led to the chaos of January 6, 2021, as he claimed the 2020 US election and electoral college votes were cast unfairly.

Trump even confronted his former vice president Mike Pence, who believed the votes had been cast fairly and that Biden and his running mate, Kamala Harris, had won the office.
