At least six people were found dead by authorities in the El Mirage desert area of ​​San Bernardino County, according to the NBC Los Angeles report Wednesday as officials cordoned off the scene and launched an investigation.

Local authorities at the scene did not release the cause of death for the people found near Highway 395, 35 miles east of Lancaster.

Authorities said police conducted a welfare check and discovered dead people who had previously been reported as five. The people were found near a minivan and a blue SUV on a dirt road around 8 p.m.

The death toll was previously reported to be five, but was later raised to six when police found another body on Wednesday.

Authorities did not reveal any identity of the deceased victims as the bodies were at the scene, according to the news report.
