The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) voted overwhelmingly to support the Palestinian bid for full UN membership by recognizing it as qualified to join and recommending the UN Security Council “favorably reconsider the matter.”
Membership can only be decided by the UN Security Council, and last month the United States vetoed a bid for full membership.
The current resolution does not grant Palestinians full membership, but recognizes them as qualified to join, and grants Palestine more participation and some rights within the United Nations General Assembly.
