The Saudi Defense Minister, Prince Khalid Bin Salman, arrived in Tehran on Thursday for meetings with officials on a visit before weekend conversations between Iran and the United States about the Iranian nuclear program.
The defense minister delivered a message from the Saudi king Salman Bin Abdulaziz to the Iranian supreme leader Ayatolá Ali Khamenei on Thursday, Iran's state media reported without giving more details about the content of the message.
Iran and the United States will celebrate a second round of conversations in Rome this weekend about the disputed Uranium enrichment program in Tehran.
“We believe that the relationship between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Saudi Arabia is beneficial for both countries,” Khamenei said at the meeting. Khamenei expressed Tehran's preparation to overcome obstacles in the way to improve ties with Riyadh.
Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed in a 2023 agreement negotiated by China to restore relations after years of hostility that had threatened stability and security in the Gulf and helped feed conflicts in the Middle East from Yemen to Syria.
Saudi Arabia welcomed Iran's nuclear conversations with the United States, saying that he supported efforts to resolve regional and international disputes, in a statement published by the official news agency of the country on Saturday.
