Chicago authorities said Wednesday that an 11-year-old boy was killed and a pregnant woman was seriously injured after a person launched an attack on the couple in the Edgewater neighborhood on the North Side.

Police said they arrested a suspect without releasing any information.

The 33-year-old woman was stabbed and taken to the hospital by city firefighters, according to authorities.

Authorities arrived at the 5900 block of North Ravenswood Avenue. According to authorities, the boy succumbed to chest injuries and was found dead around 8 a.m.

The woman had multiple stab wounds.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman as Jaydone Perkins.

Police said it was a domestic-related incident.

People at the Peterson Plaza apartments were beside themselves with pain, and some of them said they “heard screams in the morning, right before the police arrived,” according to ABCChicago.

“Screaming, just screaming,” one neighbor said in the report, adding that “I was screaming, screaming 'help,' but I didn't hear anyone intervene.” He prayed for healing. It's sad.”

Residents said the 11-year-old was friendly and playful, and described his “mother as lovely.”

Another neighbor said: “11-year-old boy, very polite. He talked to me when I saw him. She talked to me. We talked… she told me: 'Hey, how are you?'”

“She was a lovely woman and her son was very polite and talked to me all the time,” the neighbor added.

Police also launched an investigation into the incident and cordoned off the crime scene.

Another nearby resident said: “He and my daughter play together in the yard… polite girl.”

“I'm devastated,” said one neighbor. “I live in the complex. I have a 2-year-old, a 7-year-old, and an 11-year-old, and I can't understand it. Like… I'm flabbergasted.”
