Shooting at Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade kills radio DJ, wounds more than 20

At least one person was killed and 22 injured after a shooting during the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade in Kansas City, Missouri, on Wednesday, police said.

According cnnThe deceased person was identified as Lisa López-Galván, a local radio disc jockey (DJ), according to a publication shared by her employer, Radio KKFI 90.1 FM, who died while undergoing surgery for gunshot wounds, Daily News reported.

“It is with sincere sadness and an extremely heavy and broken heart that we inform our community that KKFI DJ Lisa Lopez, host of 'Taste of Tejano' lost her life,” the station shared on Facebook.

Police Chief Stacey Graves said at a news conference that three people were detained “and under investigation” in connection with the shooting near the city's iconic Union Station after a confetti-filled parade. Reuters reported.

Graves said investigators did not know the motive for the gun violence. Eleven of those injured by the gunfire or the resulting chaos were children between the ages of six and 15.

Nine of the 12 patients were gunshot victims, a Children's Mercy Kansas City hospital spokesman said.

At least 22 people were hit by gunfire, with 15 suffering life-threatening injuries, Fire Department Chief Ross Grundyson said at a late afternoon news conference.

Hours after the shooting, the precise circumstances remained unclear and authorities were still determining the total number of victims and the age range of the victims.

Graves said he was aware of reports that some fans may have participated in the pursuit and capture of at least one of the suspects, and that investigators were reviewing video of the incident.

An estimated one million people were in downtown Kansas City for the parade and rally to commemorate the Chiefs' repeat championship victory.

The players were still on stage at the victory rally when the shooting occurred.

The horrific gun attack was at least the 48th mass shooting in the United States this year, according to Gun Violence Archive.
