Struggle

  • Explosions occurred in central and eastern kyiv on Saturday evening, according to the AFP news agency, after the Ukrainian air force said Russian missiles were heading towards the city.
  • A 35-year-old man and his four-year-old son were killed in the attack overnight in the Brovary district near the Ukrainian capital, emergency services said. Three other people, including a child, were seriously injured.
  • Moscow's Defense Ministry says its forces destroyed 14 drones launched from Ukraine and four missiles over Kursk, the Russian region where Ukrainian troops are trying to gain a foothold after last week's cross-border incursion.
  • More than 76,000 people have been evacuated from the border region. In an effort to contain the incursion, Russia has launched “anti-terrorist operations” in the nearby regions of Belgorod and Bryansk, as well as in Kursk.
  • Ukraine has announced that it has evacuated 20,000 people from the Sumy region, across the border from Kursk, as fighting intensifies in the area.
