Vladimir Putin will not travel to Brazil for the BRICS Summit next month due to the arrest warrant of the International Criminal Court (ICC) pending on Russian President, the Kremlin said Wednesday.

Putin is sought by the Hague -based ICC for the alleged illegal deportation of Ukrainian children since he ordered his troops to the country in 2022.

Kremlin's assistant, Yuri Ushakov, told reporters that Putin would participate in the state heads of July 6 to 7 in Rio de Janeiro through a video link. “This is due to certain difficulties in the context of the requirements of the ICC,” he added.

Putin routinely travels the Brics Club as a counterweight to what explodes as Western hegemony on the world stage.

A loose group of countries that bear the name of the founding members of Brazil, Russia, India and China, its members commit to promoting trade and cooperation, although it is not a commercial pact and has few institutional ties.

Brazil is a member of the ICC and, therefore, would be obliged to execute the arrest warrant in Putin, if he has traveled to the summit.

The Kremlin head last year made a high profile trip to Mongolia, in a show of challenge against the order to stop him, his first trip to a CPI member since the Hague -based court issued his order in 2023.

Ulaanbaat received criticism from the Court and the European Union for letting Putin travel there.
