LONDON: Prime Minister Rishi Sunak visited the Bestway Healthcare Centre in Stoke on Trent on Monday as part of his election campaign.

The Prime Minister was welcomed at the business centre by British-Pakistani businessmen Lord Zameer Choudrey, the group's chief executive, and his son Haider.

Lord Zameer said: “With the 2024 general election campaign reaching its climax, we were delighted to welcome the Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Rishi Sunak, to our Bestway Healthcare Service Centre depot in Stoke on Trent on Monday.

“Eager to see first-hand the results of the significant investment Bestway Group has made in our multi-channel site, which delivers to over 760 Well pharmacies and over 5,000 independent pharmacies every day, houses our online digital pharmacy, our online over-the-counter store, our centralised prescription fulfilment centre and holds around 10 million medication packs in stock, the Prime Minister was impressed by the levels of automation and innovation that make the HSC such a successful operating model.”

Following a tour of the site, the Prime Minister was invited to attend a question and answer session.

Asked about funding plans for the pharmacy, the Prime Minister, who also comes from a family of pharmacists, spoke passionately from his own experience of the value of the pharmacy community and having spent much of his youth helping his family with prescription deliveries.

He also expressed his support for the expansion of the Pharmacy First program.

The Prime Minister said: “My mother was also a pharmacist. Thank you, Lord Choudrey and Haider. We are grateful and feel gratitude for what the pharmaceutical workers do.”
