The president of the United States, Joe Biden, received the Las Vegas Aces, two-time winners of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), at the White House on Thursday, where some of their mistakes did not go unnoticed by the players.
During the celebration ceremony, the 81-year-old president recalled the Las Vegas Aces' consecutive victories and mentioned the names of the people who made the team successful.
It was the moment he yelled at the recently retired Candace Parker, who never coached the team but, according to Biden, did.
Joe Biden mentioned the legendary player and said, “Even though she couldn't be here, I want to recognize someone who we consider one of the greatest coaches of all time: Candace Parker.”
He continued with his praise, although this time correct: “He played 16 seasons in the league, two Olympic gold medals, two regular season MVPs and one Finals MVP.”
“And look, and going out on top of the world with his third ring, he announced his retirement from the game. He announced his retirement from the game, but I want to thank him for an incredible career. We know he has a world.” in front of her.
Becky Hammon's team crushed Liberty in four WNBA Finals a season ago, led by two-time league MVP A'Ja Wilson, the New York Post.
During the ceremony, Vice President Kamala Harris, who is also Joe Biden's running mate in the 2024 US election, introduced the team and called Wilson “simply one of the best basketball players in the world.”
“I kind of like that often,” Democrat Biden said, referring to the Las Vegas Aces' wins.
Parker announced her retirement in April after a decorated career in the WNBA. She was also elected Wednesday as the new president of Adidas women's basketball.
