Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley was reportedly beaten by an unknown man at her South Carolina home in December, according to reports. Reuters.

Haley, who is running against former President Donald Trump, was not present at her home in Kiawah Island, South Carolina, when an unknown man called police to her home on December 30.

The caller alleged that he shot his girlfriend while she was at Haley's residence and threatened to harm himself.

The former United Nations ambassador's son was not in the area when the hoax call occurred and her husband, Michael, is currently serving a year-long deployment to Africa with the South Carolina Army National Guard.

Haley was in contact with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), his team's security chief and South Carolina State Police, according to Reuters.

An FBI official in the Palmetto State told Kiawah Island Public Safety Director Craig Harris and other law enforcement agencies that they were monitoring the deception dial and planned to add a “threat assessment” related to the incident.

Swatting involves making prank calls to emergency service members to report a criminal threat in the hopes of eliciting a potentially significant response from officers.

There has been an increase in “coup” incidents against political figures and institutions.

Two weeks ago, emergency services were called when a 911 caller falsely claimed there was a fire at the White House. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's home was smashed on Christmas Day, marking the eighth time such incidents have occurred.

Republican lawmakers Sen. Tommy Tuberville and Sen. Rick Scott introduced legislation to amend federal criminal deception statutes and impose tougher penalties for crushing.
