Musk contributes to Trump's campaign by spreading far-right rhetoric on immigration to millions of X users.
Tech giant Elon Musk announced Wednesday on X that he would “not donate to any of the candidates” for the 2024 presidential election, but it's not just money that Musk can give Trump.
Philip Bump, in an opinion piece for Washington Post, maintains that Musk's denial of financial funding to Trump does not mean he will not eventually donate to Trump. It just means that asking directly is probably not the way to go.
Philip adds: “Musk doesn't want Trump to be able to say that the Tesla CEO is on his team.” X's owner wants to make it look like Trump is on his side. Similar to how he got Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) to announce his presidential candidacy on X-Day.
Philip argues that Musk contributes daily to Trump's campaign by spreading far-right rhetoric on immigration to millions of X users, making Trump's stated positions seem less extreme.
Trump, in an attempt to secure financial support for his upcoming re-election campaign, reportedly met with Musk in Florida over the weekend.
However, later, tech giant Elon Musk took to X on Wednesday to clarify that he will not donate to any candidate for the November 2024 presidential election.
