Days after a massacre at a Sydney shopping centre, authorities reported that at least four people, including a bishop, were stabbed in the city's southwest on Monday, leaving residents terrified by the heinous act.
The suspect has been arrested in Wakeley, west of Sydney, after multiple reports of a stabbing.
The condition of the victims is said not to be life-threatening.
NSW Ambulance said a man in his 50s had been taken to Liverpool Hospital with stab wounds.
The other three are receiving medical assistance at the scene.
The incident comes almost three days after a suspect began stabbing people at the Westfield Bondi Junction shopping center in the bustling Australian city, leaving at least six people dead.
In Saturday's attack, eight other people were also injured and the suspect, identified as Joel Cauchi, 40, was shot and killed.
Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel was also among those stabbed on Monday while saying mass at the Good Shepherd Assyrian Church of Christ in Wakeley, shortly after 7 p.m.
The suspect approached the altar and began attacking Bishop's head with his knife several times.
Also among the injured is a man in his 30s. Two others suffered lacerations to the arm and hand.
NSW Police said: “Officers attached to Fairfield Police Area Command attended a location on Welcome Street, Wakeley, following reports that a number of people had been stabbed. The community is urged to avoid the area.”
