Screeching brakes and honking horns as a man kneels to ask for his wife's love in a bustling city is a familiar sight when it comes to movies; However, something similar happened in real life when Indian business magnate Mukesh Ambani proposed to Nita Ambani, his wife.
The eternal love story of Asia's richest man, Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani, unraveled decades ago on a busy Mumbai road and remains an aspiration for many, reported Indian Tribune.
Mukesh Ambani recently revealed how he asked for Nita Ambani's hand as he recalled the romantic proposal amidst cars and horns. He said that her beloved Nita was “really his first girl” and that he was determined to make her her life partner only after a few meetings.
Mukesh said he had taken Nita for a ride and while weaving through the traffic on Peddar Road, Mumbai, he took the opportunity and popped the question to Nita in the car.
At first Nita was surprised, as expected of any girl in a situation like this, but then she accepted.
However, their love story wasn't simply about luck.
Nita, a professional Bharatanatyam dancer, was first seen by Mukesh Ambani's father Dhirubhai Ambani during one of her performances, who liked her as a partner for his elder son Anil.
However, a series of meetings gave Nita the opportunity to learn about Mukesh's humility and she was amazed.
The same was true for Mukesh, who was impressed with Nita's beauty and nature, prompting him to ask for her hand in marriage.
Although Nita, who was then earning her living as a professional dance teacher in a small school, had her conditions and wanted to continue her profession even after marriage, which the Ambanis kindly granted her.
Nita later started working at Reliance Group as Chairman and Founder of Reliance Foundation and Dhirubhai Ambani International School, and as Director of Reliance Industries.
