Manchester Airport, one of the UK's main airports, issued a warning to passengers to stay away from the airport after a “major” power outage disrupted several flights on Sunday.

The blackout occurred early Sunday morning and caused people to form large queues inside the airport, bbc reported, adding that the airport expects more disruptions throughout the day.

In addition, some arriving flights were diverted to other airports.

An airport spokesperson warned that passengers arriving at the airport could experience delays.

Flights of those already at the airport will be prioritized as efforts continue to “resolve that delay,” a spokesperson said.

The outage comes at the start of the summer holiday season at the UK's third busiest airport, where an airport source said the power outage “literally brought everything down”.

This power outage also affected other businesses, including major logistics companies nearby.

Bobbi Hadgraft, who is traveling to watch England at Euro 2024, said: “We were worried about missing our flight.”

He added that the power outage had affected notice boards and scanners, so staff had to direct passengers around.

Others took to social media to complain about long queues at check-in and passport control counters, as well as lack of communication from staff in the “chaos”.

Images showed long lines of people, some waiting in near darkness.

The airport said its power went out around 1:30am BST, but has since been restored, although it would take time to get the systems back up and running.
