New York: The Electoral Board of New York City confirmed on Tuesday an impressive victory of the mayor Zohran Mamdani in the Democratic primaries, cleaning the way for the political advent to be the candidate of the party for the Mayor's Office of November.

The results of the classified election vote published on Tuesday showed that Mamdani, who began his campaign as a little known member of the New York State Assembly, said 56% of the votes in the third round of the vote, where more than 50% of the votes are required for a winner.

The results of the classified election vote published on Tuesday showed Mamdani, who began their campaign as a little known member of the New York State Assembly, ensuring 56% of the votes in the third round, where more than 50% is needed to win.

As a Democratic candidate, Mamdani will face Mayor Eric Adams in the general elections. Adams, who won as a Democrat in 2021, is now running as independent after being accused of corruption charges. The United States Department of Justice then withdrew the case.

In a new video posted in X, Mamdani compared his main victory with the 2021 Adams campaign.

“We always believed that our victory occurred after several voting rounds of classified choice. When we saw that we obtained more first round votes than Eric Adams in seven rounds last time, it was surprising,” he said.

Mamdani's unexpected victory over the experienced politician Andrew Cuomo, a centrist, has expressed concerns among some Democrats. The Muslim born in 33 -year -old Uganda describes himself as a democratic socialist, which causes fears that Republicans can use their views to attack vulnerable Democrats.

The day after Mamdani's victory, President Donald Trump described him as “100% communist lunatic.” The campaign committee of the Republican Congress also promised to link Mamdani with each Democrat at risk in the middle of the period next year.

In the same video, Mamdani said that his goal was to “recover people to the Democratic party” and said he even obtained support in some neighborhoods of New York City who had voted for Trump in the last presidential elections.

When asked how he would answer if Mamdani, as mayor, tried to block immigration arrests, Trump said:

“Well, then we will have to arrest it. Look, we do not need a communist in this country. But if we have one, I will monitor it very carefully in the name of the nation.”

Mamdani had previously criticized immigration raids, saying that they were “terrifying people” and that the agents involved had no interest in defending the law.

Cuomo, who won 44% of the final vote, admitted after the first results were announced last Tuesday. While I could still run as independent, he hasn't said if he will.

Mamdani will also face Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa, a radio presenter known for founding the Anti-Crime patrol of Los Angelinos Guardian, and Jim Walden, an independent candidate and lawyer.

New York City introduced the option to vote classified in 2021. The system allows voters to classify up to five candidates in order of preference. The tickets are counted in rounds, with the lowest classification candidates eliminated and their votes are redistributed until someone crosses the 50%threshold.
