London Mayor Sadiq Khan has announced a £10,000 fund for security training sessions for mosques across the capital.

The mayor's funding comes amid Islamophobic attacks and riots in the city and public safety concerns amid racist unrest across the country.

Muslims have been urging the mayor to ensure the safety of civilians at places of worship, including mosques.

The concerns were raised by Hina Bokhari, leader of the Liberal Democrat group in the London Assembly, who said many Muslims have become concerned about the rise in hate crimes across the country, according to The BBC.

An organization that works to address Islamophobic incidents, Tell mom has said Reuters that the foundation has received more than 500 calls and reports of hate crimes against Muslims since the start of the riots two weeks ago.

Mayor Sadiq said he was proud of Londoners for standing together against all forms of hate last week.

“I am proud that last week Londoners sent a clear message that we are an open and welcoming city that stands united against all forms of hate,” the mayor was quoted as saying. BBC.

“However, the violence and disorder seen across the country has left many Londoners frightened,” Mayor Sadiq added.

He reaffirmed that “there is no room for complacency. We can never stop being vigilant.”

The Mayor of London said he has been working closely with the British Government and the Metropolitan Police to ensure that all Londoners feel safe and protected.
