Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris' campaign said Tuesday it had been targeted by foreign hackers, days after rival Donald Trump's campaign suggested it had been hacked by Iran.

“In July, the FBI notified the campaign's legal and security teams that we were the target of a foreign actor influence operation,” a Harris campaign official said. AFP Agency.

“We have robust cybersecurity measures in place and are not aware of any security breaches of our systems as a result of such measures.”

The campaign gave no indication of which foreign power it believed was behind the attempt, but said it remained in contact with law enforcement agencies.

The US State Department on Monday warned Iran of the consequences of election interference after the Trump campaign announced it had been hacked.

The Trump campaign suggested Saturday that Iran was behind a leak that sent reporters documents including research they used to evaluate his running mate, JD Vance.

He warned the media against reprinting the documents, saying such action would be “doing the bidding of America's enemies.”

The tone was different from 2016, when Trump told a news conference he hoped Russia would “find” Hillary Clinton's emails, comments that were widely seen as encouraging new cyberattacks against his election opponent.

US intelligence concluded that Russia intervened in the 2016 election to support Trump, who has rejected those findings.
