The jury began deliberations Monday in Hunter Biden's trial on federal gun charges.
This is the first time in US history that the son of a sitting president faces criminal prosecution.
The US president's son, 54, is accused of lying about his use of illegal drugs when he bought a gun in 2018. The jury began deliberating after both prosecutors and Biden's defense team concluded arguments , according to reports from CNN and other American media.
Hunter Biden did not testify in court in a case that continued for a week in Wilmington, Delaware.
First lady Jill Biden attended the event for several days. President Biden, although not present, expressed pride in her son. “As president, I do not and will not comment on pending federal cases, but as a father, I have boundless love for my son, trust in him, and respect for his strength,” Biden said.
Hunter Biden faces another tax evasion case in California. In 2018, the Yale-educated attorney falsely said on a federal form that he was not using illegal drugs when he purchased a .38-caliber revolver. He has also been charged with illegal possession of a firearm, which he kept for 11 days in October of that year.
If convicted, Hunter Biden could end up in prison for up to 25 years. However, as a first-time offender, it is unlikely that he will face significant prison time.
