Court documents suggest that Anand Sujith Henry filed for divorce in December 2016, but the case was not resolved.
An Indian family of four was found dead inside their home in San Mateo, California, on Tuesday in an incident that authorities believe is a possible murder-suicide.
According NBC NewsThe members of the family who belonged to Kerala in India were identified as Anand Sujith Henry, 42, his wife Alice Benziger, 40, and their four-year-old twin children.
Police said officers were sent to the family's home in the 4100 block of Alameda de las Pulgas on Monday morning for a welfare check after receiving no response from the occupants.
Although there were no signs of forced entry, officers found an open window through which they entered the home and discovered the bodies of the two adults in a bathroom, both with gunshot wounds.
They also found a 9 millimeter caliber pistol and a loaded magazine at the scene.
The couple's twins were found in a bedroom and the cause of their death is under investigation.
Sources suggest that they may have been asphyxiated, strangled, or poisoned, as they did not show any physical trauma.
Henry filed for divorce in December 2016, according to court documents, but the case was not resolved.
Police previously responded to calls from the residence, but details of those cases have not been made public. Investigators are still trying to piece together the motive for the deaths, as no suicide note was discovered.
Both Henry and Benziger were experts in information technology and had spent the previous nine years in the United States.
Henry worked as a software engineer while Benziger worked as a senior analyst.
