Beijing is expected to see its largest rain on Tuesday, with a forecast of up to 300 mm (11.8 inches) for some areas.
At least 30 people have been killed by severe rains and floods in Beijing while heavy rains soak the Chinese capital, state media report.
The deaths occurred in the mountainous districts of northern Beijing, with 28 dead in Miyun and Dos in Yanqing, the official news agency of the State of Xinhua reported Tuesday.
“The last round of strong storms has left 30 people dead in Beijing from midnight on Monday,” Xinhua said, citing the municipal flood control headquarters of the city.
The torrential rain began during the weekend and intensified around the Chinese capital and the surrounding provinces on Monday, with Beijing registering rainfall up to 543 mm (21.3 inches) in its northern districts, Xinhua said.
The authorities in Beijing have relocated more than 80,000 residents of the worst areas affected by floods, which has damaged dozens of roads and has reduced power to at least 136 villages, the country's national broadcaster CCTV reported.
The heaviest rain is expected in early Beijing on Tuesday, with a rain of up to 300 mm (11.8 inches) forecast for some areas.
The authorities ordered the release of water from a reservoir in the Rural District of Miyun de Beijing, which was at its highest level since it was built in 1959, according to the reports, and the premises are warned that they remain away from the downstream rivers as their levels increased and more heavy rains are forecast.
The Chinese president, Xi Jinping, on Monday night, ordered the search and rescue efforts of “everything outside” to minimize the casualties, since the authorities ordered the people who stayed inside, closed schools, the construction work was suspended and the outdoor tourism and other activities arrested until the emergency warning was raised.
In the city of Taishitun, about 100 km (60 miles) northeast of the Beijing center, the streets were covered with mud and water on Monday, and the uprooted trees lay in lots with their naked roots exposed, reports the Associated Press news agency.
“The flood ran, as well as that, so quickly and suddenly. In a short time, the place was filling,” said local resident Zhuang Zhelin, who was cleaning the mud with his family from his construction material store.
Monday's previous reports said that torrential rains and floods had killed four people, with eight other missing, after a landslide in the country's hebei province, located south of Beijing.
