Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential campaign raised $310 million in July, more than double what her Republican rival Donald Trump raised.
Harris now has $377 million available for her campaign. This strong fundraising haul is a big shift since President Joe Biden dropped out of the race on July 21 and endorsed his running mate, Reuters reported.
Additionally, the July figure — more than double the $138.7 million raised by Republican rival Donald Trump in the same month — brings the total money raised by Harris and Biden before her to more than $1 billion, the fastest presidential campaign to cross that threshold in history, the campaign said.
July had previously been predicted to be a disappointing month for Democrats, but Harris' appearance resulted in more than $200 million of the $310 million in the first week.
Additionally, two-thirds of July's donations came from new donors and 94% of donations were $200 or less, according to the campaign.
“This is a historic achievement for a candidate who will make history in November. The tremendous outpouring of support we have seen in such a short period of time makes it clear that Harris’ coalition is mobilized, growing, and ready to get to work to defeat Trump in November,” said Harris for President campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez.
Harris' campaign had $377 million in cash on hand at the end of the month, $50 million more than Trump's campaign's $327 million.
Trump's fundraising haul in July, meanwhile, was 24% higher than the $111.8 million the campaign said it raised in June.
However, polls showed Trump had built up a lead over Biden, even in battleground states, after Biden's disastrous performance in the June 27 debate, but Harris's entry into the race changed the dynamic, and recent polls show a tight race.
