Mike Gill, a member of former President Donald Trump's administration and a married father of three, died days after being shot during a deadly carjacking in Washington, DC on Monday night.

His wife, Kristina Gill, issued a written statement to FOX 5saying: “It is with deep sadness that I wish to inform the community of the passing of my husband, Mike Gill. His sudden departure has left a void in our lives that can never be filled.

“In this time of grief, we are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from family, friends and the community, and we extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who reached out to offer condolences and assistance.”

His wife remembered him as a “devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend” who “brought people together and made them feel included, supported and loved.”

He continued: “Above all, Mike spoke with pride and love about his family, especially our children, Sean, Brian and Annika. For those who wish to honor Mike's memory, we ask that you cherish the moments shared and keep it in your thoughts and prayers.”

Last Monday at 5:45 p.m., Artell Cunningham, 28, walked in and shot Gill, who was sitting in his vehicle in northwest Washington. The attack on Gill was the first of many reported in a carjacking.

At the time of his death, Gill was Senior Vice President of Capital Markets at the Housing Policy Council. He previously worked as chief of staff at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission during the Donald Trump administration.

Drew Maloney, executive director of the American Investment Council and a friend of Gill's for 15 years, said: “Mike wasn't just a close friend; he was a member of our family.

“Our daughters' friendship became a beautiful bond, and it was a testament to Mike's warmth and kindness that he welcomed us into his life with open arms. “Through countless holidays, celebrations and shared moments, our families became intertwined and I am so grateful for our enduring friendship.”
