An explosion in Afghanistan's capital Kabul killed at least six people and wounded 13 others on Monday, the country's interior ministry spokesman said.

Police described the blast as a “suicide attack.”

A suicide bomber detonated explosives in the Afghan capital on Monday, police said, killing six people and wounding 13 others.

“This afternoon, a person carrying explosives on his body detonated himself,” Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran posted on social media platform X.

“Unfortunately, six civilians, including a woman, were killed and 13 others were injured.”

Spokesman Abdul Mateen Qaniee said Reuters by telephone that the explosion took place in the southwestern area of Darul Aman.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

The incident took place in the Qala-e-Bakhtiar area in southern Kabul and investigations are ongoing, Zadran said.

Violence has declined in Afghanistan since the Taliban seized power in 2021, ending a two-decade war.

However, Daesh's regional chapter, known as Daesh Khorasan, is active in Afghanistan and regularly targets civilians, foreigners and Taliban officials with gun and bomb attacks.
