X, former Twitter owner Elon Musk rejected reports that former US President Donald Trump sought donations for his campaign when the two met in Florida earlier this month, reported Business Insider.
In an interview with the former cnn host, Don Lemon, which was published on Monday, the tech billionaire said their meeting was not pre-planned, but rather a coincidence.
“I was having breakfast at a friend's house and Donald Trump came over. That's it,” Musk said.
Lemon then asked the Tesla owner what the two talked about in their “chance” meeting.
To this, Trump said: “Let's say he was the one who did most of the talking.” […] “I don't remember him saying anything that he hasn't said publicly.”
“I'm not paying his legal bills in any way… and he didn't ask me for money.”
At the fundraising event where Trump and Musk met, several wealthy Republican donors were present. The New York Times had reported.
After news broke that they had met, Musk categorically announced that he would not support any candidate through funds.
In the interview he made it clear once again that he would not donate money to anyone, but rather would support a candidate before the presidential elections on November 5.
“While I will express my opinion, I don't want to put my thumb on the scale monetarily,” he said.
