Former US President Donald Trump's youngest son, Barron, declined to participate as a Florida delegate at the Republican National Convention. Fox News reported.

Trump's 18-year-old son, 77, whom he shares with former first lady Melania Trump, 54, will not participate as a delegate to the Republican National Committee from Florida.

In a statement to Fox NewsA spokesperson for Melania Trump's office said her son “unfortunately declined” the delegate selection.

“While Barron is honored to have been elected as a delegate for the Republican Party of Florida, he regrettably declines to participate due to prior commitments,” the statement said.

The Republican National Convention is scheduled for July 15-18 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where Trump will be officially crowned the Republican challenger to Democratic President Joe Biden.

Delegates from each state will designate their candidate for the November elections.

According to a list released earlier this week by the Florida Republican Party, several members of the Trump family were chosen to be delegates, including Donald Trump Jr, Eric Trump, Tiffany Trump and Donald Jr's girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle.

Barron lived in the White House as a child when his father was president, but has been heavily shielded from public view.

Additionally, Trump's eldest daughter and former senior White House adviser, Ivanka, was not on the list.
