Trump's co-defendant, Michael Roman, had accused Willis of having a romantic affair with prosecutor Nathan Wade.
Former US President Donald Trump criticized Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis after she publicly admitted to having a “personal relationship” with the lead prosecutor in Trump's criminal case in Georgia. The hill reported.
“Fulton County Prosecutor Fani Willis just admitted to having a sexual relationship with the prosecutor she, in consultation with the White House and the Department of Justice, appointed to 'GET PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP,'” he posted .
“By going after the highest level person, and the Republican candidate, he was able to get his 'lover' much more money, almost a million dollars, than he could get by prosecuting any other person or individual. Trump's post continued.
“THAT MEANS THIS SCAM IS COMPLETELY DISCREDITED AND IS OVER!”
In a court filing Friday, Willis acknowledged her relationship with special counsel Nathan Wade after Trump's co-defendant Michael Roman accused her of having a romantic affair with him last month.
However, he said he would not step aside from the case despite Roman's claims that the relationship made the prosecution “fatally flawed.”
In response to the allegations, Willis said the motion was designed to attract media attention and provide a defense of Wade and his legal abilities.
Meanwhile, Wade said in a sworn statement that he was nothing more than friends with Willis at the time of his hiring in 2021 and that the two developed a personal relationship in 2022.
Roman, along with Trump, has requested that the charges against him be dismissed and that the Fulton County district attorney's office, Willis and Wade, be prevented from handling the case.
The relationship is a recent development in the prosecution of Trump, who faces four criminal charges amid his presidential campaigns. While he is not yet the Republican nominee for the 2024 election, he has a strong chance of securing a third consecutive nomination alongside Nikki Haley, the only other Republican candidate in the race.
