After facing continued criticism for not directly blaming President Vladimir Putin for the murder of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, former US President Donald Trump maintained his stance by saying he knows nothing about it, calling the death “unusual.”

Navalny, who died last month in a Russian prison, was a leading voice against Vladimir Putin's government.

Western leaders, including President Joe Biden, consider his death an assassination, however, the cause of his death remains unclear.

while talking to Fox News Regarding Navalny's death, Donald Trump said on Sunday: “I don't know.”

The former president, shaken by the accusation, went on to say: “Maybe. I mean, possibly, I could say probably. I don't know. He's a young man, so statistically, he would be alive for a long time. According to the insurance figures, he would be “I live another 40 years.”

“Something unusual happened,” the 77-year-old said.

Trump was also asked about the previous attempt to poison Navalny's life, to which he reiterated: “I don't know. You certainly can't say for sure. But certainly, it would seem like something very bad happened.”

The comments come as Putin won his fifth term as president on Sunday with 87.8% of the vote, the highest percentage in Russian history after the breakup of the Soviet Union.
