Former President Donald Trump criticized his rival Kamala Harris by questioning her racial identity on Wednesday in Chicago.

In a panel discussion at the National Association of Black Journalists conference, Trump attacked his Democratic competitor by mentioning that Harris “turned black several years ago.” CBS reported.

He ABS News Black journalist Rachel Scott questioned Trump on the definition of “DEI.”

“I have known [Harris] For a long time, indirectly, not directly, a lot. And she was always of Indian descent, and she only promoted Indian descent. I didn't know she was black until a few years ago, when she became black and now she wants to be known as black. So, I don't know, is she Indian or is she black?

“But you know what? I respect either one, I respect either one, but she obviously doesn't,” Trump said of Harris. “Because she was Indian through and through, and all of a sudden, she turned around and became a black person. I think somebody should look into that, too, because when you ask, you still have a very hostile and nasty tone.”

However, hours later the former president criticized the conversation on his social networks. “The questions were rude and unpleasant, often in the form of statements, but we CRUSHED them!”, he said.

Moreover, these comments came about because Harris' mother is from India and her father from Jamaica. The Democrat completed her undergraduate degree at Howard University, a historically black school in Washington. Harris led the Black Law Students Association as president while studying at the University of California, San Francisco, law school.

Speaking at an event in Houston on Wednesday night for the Sigma Gamma Rho sorority, Harris responded by reminding leaders about her rival Trump in the upcoming election and saying the United States deserves a leader who tells the truth.

“This afternoon, Donald Trump spoke at the annual meeting of the National Association of Black Journalists, and it was the same old spectacle. Division and disrespect… Let me just say that the American people deserve better,” he said.

“Americans deserve a leader who speaks the truth, a leader who does not respond with hostility and anger when confronted with the facts; we deserve a leader who understands that our differences do not divide us; they are an essential source of our strength,” he reiterated.
