Former US President and Republican White House candidate Donald Trump has reportedly made controversial comments about one of the most infamous personalities in history, Adolf Hitler.
Donald Trump, who is immersed in his four criminal indictments, continues to make headlines for his comments about the authoritarian leaders of the contemporary world.
According to a cnn In a report citing sources, the 77-year-old businessman called Hungarian leader Viktor Orbán “fantastic.” Chinese leader Xi Jinping is “brilliant” and North Korean Kim Jong Un is “a good guy.”
The businessman turned politician continued to admire authoritarians in their campaigns as in a town hall in Fox News In July 2023, Trump called Xi a brilliant guy.
He also expressed similar sentiments toward Vladimir Putin, calling him smarter than President Joe Biden.
But what alarmed people were his comments about Adolf Hitler in which he supposedly said that the German leader “did some good things,” the cnn the report said.
“He thought [Vladimir] Putin was a good guy and Kim [Jong Un] “He was a good guy, we had cornered North Korea,” said a former chief of staff under retired Trump general John Kelly.
Speaking of Hitler, Kelly recalled Trump saying, “He said, 'Well, but Hitler did some good things.'” He said, 'Well, what?' And he said, 'Well, [Hitler] Rebuilt the economy.' But what did he do with that rebuilt economy? He turned it against his own people and against the world. And I said, 'Sir, you can never say anything good about that guy.' Nothing,'” Kelly recounted. “I mean, Mussolini was a great guy in comparison.”
“However, it is quite difficult to believe that the Holocaust was lost, and quite difficult to understand how the 400,000 American soldiers who were killed in the European theater were lost.”
General Kelly also noted that Trump also admired that Hitler maintained the loyalty of his officers unlike him.
“When he brought us generals, he truly believed that we would be loyal, that we would do whatever he wanted us to do,” General Kelly said.
A Trump spokesman in 2021 rejected accusations that he praised Hitler.
The former president's allies believe Trump's election to the White House would mark a shift in U.S. policies toward NATO and other international commitments, including Ukraine.
