Washington has never experienced a week like this. On Sunday, President Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race. On Tuesday, his vice president, Kamala Harris, had taken over and was campaigning.

The pace at which this story has spread in the US media has left liberal commentators breathless. They quickly stopped criticising Biden for selfishly clinging to power and started praising him for his selfless about-face. What comes next now that Harris is the likely candidate?
