At least 3 dead as Ohio tornadoes leave trail of destruction

Up to three people have lost their lives in Ohio after a series of tornadoes ripped through Midwest neighborhoods overnight, leaving behind significant debris and damage, according to ABC 7 report on Friday.

Indiana authorities reported several people injured after the disastrous tornado that affected Randolph County.

Officials also reported significant damage in several counties amid tornadoes that wreaked havoc across the Plains and Midwest.

A half-mile wide tornado also struck the village of Lakeview, where local authorities responded to the event with mass casualties, destroying homes, buildings and residential structures.

Indiana authorities said they were working to confirm reports of deaths from a probable tornado that devastated the city of Winchester.

It is the place where strong winds tore apart large building structures leaving metal siding wrapped around trees and power lines.

Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter said, “We don't know the exact extent of the damage in the south end of the city, but we do know that some buildings and homes have been completely destroyed.”

“Our laundromat is gone, the old plastic building is completely demolished,” said Amber Fagan, executive director of the Indiana Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, adding, “It's bad.”

“It's very bad. It's pure devastation. I've never seen anything like it in my entire life.”

Images posted on social media showed damaged homes in Jefferson County, Indiana, and an image of baseball-sized hail.

Authorities in nearby Kentucky said the storms damaged at least 50 buildings, including homes, and overnight officials said they won't know the true extent of the damage until the sun rises.

In central Illinois, powerful storms were accompanied by torrential downpours, strong winds and hail, causing trees to crash and fall to the ground.
