Rumors on social media platforms that a great kite is in a collision course with the Earth have been circulating, and some users describe it as a great threat to humanity.
Others are discussing how the comet, known as 3I/Atlas and detected by the NASA Atlas Telescope on July 1, could be diverted from the Earth. Some have even gone so far as to highlight the “news” of military movements and international coordination to counteract the comet before impact, which caused more alarm.
So is there any truth in these rumors and what do we know with certainty?
When did rumors on the kite begin?
The rumors began to spread after the New York Post published a story on September 29 under the headline: “The 'mass' comet that rushed towards us is bigger than what was previously thought, it could be an alien technology, the scientist says: 'could change everything for us'”.
Users in X (previously Twitter) distributed article screenshots to support their claims. An account, under the name of Steven Greenstreet, wrote: “Scientists say that a huge alien spacecraft is precipitating towards Earth. Why do not more people talk about this?”

Another account called Dr. Discute published the story again, adding: “That is why all generals are gathering!” – A reference to a September 30 meeting of US military leaders chaired by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. That publication accumulated more than half a million visits.

Meanwhile, an account under the name of Richard Roeper shared his concerns: “According to the reports, a mass kite rushes to the earth to 130,000 mph! Can we stop it? They have told me that there are two missions in process: one that involves the” crew of the Messiah “specially selected, and another that uses two squads, known as the freedom team and the team of independence.

Why do some people claim that it is an alien plane?
Speculation intensified, with some stories that suggest that the object was not a comet at all, but a spacecraft that was heading towards Earth.
An account under the name Lord Bebo shared statements falsely attributed to the American physicist Michio Kaku, claiming that the object was on its way “to carry out a recognition mission, possibly with hostile intention.” The publication, accompanied by an edited screen capture of a television interview with Kaku and the legend, “could be an alien probe sent to Earth” obtained more than 290,000 visits and dozens of comments.

Similarly, another story called Vibes of Astronomy suggested: “While most scientists agree that it is probably a strange comet, some bold voices suggest that it could be something else, perhaps even a probe designed from another civilization.” No evidence was provided.

So what are the facts?
The Verification Agency of Acts of Al Jazeera, Sanad, investigated the claims about the kite known as 3i/Atlas, an interstellar object, to determine if it really raises any real threat to the earth or could even be a hostile probe.
In fact, the kite was detected by the NASA Atlas telescope on July 1, 2025. NASA, which describes it as “a cocoon of tear -shaped dust that comes out of its solid and ice cream nucleus,” confirmed that it does not represent a danger to the earth. He pointed out that the closest that has reached the Earth was about 270 million kilometers (167.8 million miles) on July 21.
The European Space Agency (ESA) also confirmed that the comet does not represent a threat to the earth or for any other planet, explaining that its closest distance was more than 2.5 times than between Earth and the Sun.
According to NASA, the comet will reach its closest approach to the Sun on October 30, 2025. At that time, there will be around 210 million km (130.5 million miles) of the sun, just inside the orbit of Mars.
However, this is a significant kite. According to the Hubble Space Telescope, it travels about 210,000 kilometers per hour (130,500 miles per hour), the fastest speed ever recorded for a “visitor” to our solar system.

NASA said the comet presents a rare opportunity for scientists to study an interstellar “visitor” as it happens through the solar system.
“Continuous Hubble observations allow astronomers to estimate the size of the code core,” the agency said in a statement. “The observations as of August 20, 2025 indicate that the upper limit in its diameter is 3.5 miles (5.6 km), although it could be as small as 1,444 feet (440 meters) wide.”

As for the appointments attributed to the physicist Michio Kaku, Sanad found no evidence to support them. The image that circulated online was taken from a previous interview with US Outlet Nation News on February 20, 2025, months before the discovery of 3i/Atlas.
