A man died after a plane crashed on a beach in southern Mexico on Sunday while attempting to make an emergency landing. CBS News reported citing the authorities.

The plane, in which four paratroopers were traveling, was practically intact when it fell in a populated area near Puerto Escondido and landed almost on top of the victim, whose nationality was not revealed.

The four Canadians and one Mexican on board were removed from the small plane and taken to a hospital for treatment.

The injured, ages 60, 59, 41 and 35, are in “stable” condition, according to the civil defense of the state of Oaxaca.

The names and places of origin of the Canadians are unknown.

The office said the dead man's wife had been nearby but was unharmed.

Global Port reported that the victim was taking photographs with his wife when the small plane crashed, with the side marked “Skydive Puerto Escondido” on the aircraft, which advertises jumps from 13,000 feet above sea level on its website.

Puerto Global also posted a video of the aftermath of the crash that shows beachgoers carrying at least one person from the plane onto the sand.

The accident occurred a few meters from the water and even closer to a wooden beach structure that is frequently used in Puerto Escondido for restaurants.

State Governor Salomón Jara said in a social media post that resources were being mobilized to help the plane's passengers who were injured.

“We will provide all the necessary support to the relatives of the deceased person and accompany them in the face of their irreparable loss,” he stated.
