US airlines expected to carry a record 271 million passengers this summer – Business Traveler

Industry trade organization Airlines for America (A4A) predicts a record summer for US airlines.

A4A estimates that US airlines will carry 271 million passengers during the summer period, up 6.3 percent from the 255 million recorded in the summer of 2023, which itself was a record number for the industry.

The organization also projects that U.S. passenger airlines will operate 26,000 daily scheduled flights this summer, nearly 1,400 more than last year.

In October, United announced that this summer it would operate its largest transatlantic schedules to date, with flights to a total of 38 destinations.

American Airlines is also launching a series of New and resumed routes to European destinations. in the coming weeks and JetBlue to begin flights between New York JFK and Edinburgh next week.

Meanwhile, Delta is also launching routes from JFK to Munich and Naples, in addition to resuming flights to Shannon.

Commenting on the news, Rebecca Spicer, senior vice president of communications at A4A, said:

“US airlines are excited to be able to transport a record number of travelers this summer. “Our airlines have adjusted their schedules to accommodate the current realities of our National Airspace System (NAS), helping to alleviate some of those pressure points and making for a smooth summer travel season.”
