At some point in your life in Los Angeles, you've probably heard someone complain that it's a city built for cars. I have never quite understood that complaint. While it may be true that we spend a good portion of our time on freeways, there are thriving pedestrian-friendly pockets hidden around our unwieldy city. In addition, they are often framed by colorful bougainvillea, aromatic jasmine and photogenic palm trees. And our ideal climate ensures that almost all walking tours are sunny.
Los Angeles is truly a walking city.

You just have to know where to go. That's why we recently published a guide to walking in Los Angeles. It's a roadmap (sometimes quite literal) to the people and places that keep our sidewalks alive in Los Angeles. But if you've lived here long enough, you probably have your own favorite place. Mine, currently, is a trail that winds through the Eagle Rock Recreation Center, through the hills, and toward the Occidental College campus.
