The Lufthansa Group has provided an update on the rollout of inflight Wi-Fi connectivity on its fleet of A220, A319, A320 and A321 aircraft.
The group has installed broadband on short and medium-haul aircraft from Lufthansa, Austrian and Eurowings, with SWISS being the next to benefit from this technology.
Work will begin in the fourth quarter of 2024 and, when completed, a total of 150 of the group's aircraft will offer Wi-Fi connectivity.
The news follows the introduction this month of free in-flight messaging for Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines customers on short- and medium-haul Wi-Fi enabled aircraft.

Eligible flight customers can now send and receive an unlimited number of messages, including photos, on their smartphone or tablet.
The only prerequisite to use the new service is to log in to FlyNet with a Miles & More card number or with an email address registered with the Lufthansa Group Travel ID. Those customers who do not have one of these will be able to register on board.
SWISS passengers will benefit from free onboard messaging, as the planes are equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity.
The Lufthansa Group also said that the newly equipped aircraft would feature the hybrid European Aviation Network technology installed by Viasat, in which an S-band satellite provides coverage across Europe, with supplementary ground components from Deutsche Telekom and radio towers. terrestrial networks with 4G LTE technology that provide additional capacity. .
