Sunday is Tia Mowry's favorite day of the week because it's the day she can do anything. she wants.
“In my career there is always some kind of calendar,” said the actor and businessman. But on Sundays, “it really flows freely. I mean, yes, there are some routines and traditions that we have on Sundays, but it's not a strict schedule.”
Mowry has been lighting up our television screens since her debut in the beloved '90s comedy “Sister, Sister” alongside her twin sister, Tamera. Since then, Mowry has taken on several other notable roles in shows and movies such as “The Game,” “Twitches” and “Family Reunion.” She also starred in a Style Network reality show about her and her sister's life called “Tia & Tamera,” published two cookbooks, and launched 4u by Tia, a sustainable, science-backed hair care line. natural.
In Sunday Funday, the people of Los Angeles tell us step by step their ideal Sunday in the city. Find ideas and inspiration on where to go, what to eat and how to enjoy life on the weekends.
The latest adventure for the mother of two? Mowry returns to reality TV to star in WEtv's “Tia Mowry: My Next Act,” a show about her life after her divorce. “I'm removing the filter like never before,” she wrote on Instagram.
Mowry, an Army brat born in Germany and raised in various parts of the United States, said she loves Los Angeles, where she has lived for more than 30 years, because of the city's emphasis on wellness. “There is always some type of health food store or smoothie store or juice store. [or] excellent, modern exercise program, all within a block of each other, which is very beneficial, especially when you are a mother,” she said.
Mowry's ideal Sunday in Los Angeles involves playing with her kids (Cairo is 5 and Cree is 12), sweating at Equinox, and dining at her favorite pasta place. This is how I would spend the day.

6 a.m.: Meditate, journal, and read.
The first thing I do when I wake up is meditate. I literally put a “Do Not Disturb” sign on my door and the kids know it. They are 12 and 5 years old. Even the 5-year-old knows that he shouldn't go into mom's room when that sign is on and his door is closed. I will meditate for an hour on the weekend.
I get up at 6am because I have to get it done before the kids wake up at 7:25am. I don't know why it's 7:25 am. [Laughs] Then I'll journal. I have this really cool manifestation journal where I write my manifesto every day and answer some questions. It takes about five minutes. Then I will read for 15 to 20 minutes every Sunday. I just finished reading “Set Boundaries, Find Peace: A Guide to Recovery.” It's by an amazing black woman named Nedra Glover Tawwab. She is a psychologist and this is an incredible book.
7:25 am: Fun time with the kids.
Once I'm done with that, the kids will come in and then play, jump on my bed and it will be a fun time. We spent about an hour in my bed just hanging out, giving each other kisses and hugs. And of course between the two of them, it's not always pleasant. [laughs]. There may be some exchanges between the children and some “Mommmmm” [imitates in agitated kid voice]. So maybe we’re watching “Avatar” or “Bluey.” Basically, whoever grabs the remote control first, that's what we're looking at.
9am: Order or go out to breakfast
Sometimes we order food from Postmates or walk to our favorite restaurant. Is called The daily pain. It's a French breakfast place. I always order my favorite drink, which is the matcha latte with vanilla extract and oat milk. I usually have the three-egg scramble, which comes with a green salad. And then Cairo will get pancakes with bananas and extra syrup, and Cree will get a chai latte with oat milk and avocado toast.
I tried everything on that menu. The waiters know us there. And like I said, sometimes I take the kids and we walk. Cree will hop on his bike, I'll put Cairo in a cart and we'll go.
11am Drop off the kids and head to the gym.
We will return home around 11am and then the kids will hang out at the house. Or they're hanging out with Grandpa, Grandma, or Uncle Tahj Mowry, and I'll go to my favorite gym. Equinox. I feel like at the moment in my life it's not about that intense workout where you're so exhausted afterwards. It's more about moving the body. So I'll do about 20 minutes of a nice walk on the treadmill and then do another 20 minutes on the Stairmaster. After that, maybe do some floor Pilates and some stretches, and that's it. The steam room is one of my favorite things to do right after a workout. That's how you know you're getting older. [laughs].
You know, really take care of yourself and fill your cup, so you can serve your kids, your work life, your friends and all that. So that is essential.
2:30 pm Grocery shopping in Erewhon
I'll come home and freshen up, then go out to do some shopping. Sometimes the children join me; sometimes they won't. Cree usually loves to join me because she loves food. I am going to go to Erewhon. I know some people say it's this grocery place, but I've actually been going there for years before it was popular.
Shopping is like my zen place. I will review the recipes in my cookbook.”The quick fix kitchen“or my other cookbook,”You completely new”, and choose what we are going to have that week. Then I'll get everything we need. I always like to have something planned so I'm not fighting. I'll grab some essentials, then come home and unpack. As you can see, Sundays are clearly a day where I don't cook too much because it's a cold day.
My favorite smoothie in Erewhon is Royal Defense 13, which basically just has protein, berries, and apple juice. It comes with bananas but I'm allergic so I usually buy it without bananas and it's very good. I like to keep it very simple.
5:00 pm Dinner at Uovo
One of our favorite things to do is go to a pasta place called uovo. The reason we go all the time is because Cairo is obsessed with pasta. If I could eat pasta for breakfast, lunch and dinner, I would. The good thing about this place is that, because I'm a foodie, it's simple but good, meaning it's not a huge menu. And they make their pasta fresh. It's intimate and the waiters know us too. It's kid-friendly, but it's also a great environment for adults.
Cairo and I love truffle parmesan pasta, and Cree loves beef ravioli. It's nice to end the day with a nice glass of wine and everyone is full of pasta.
6:30 pm Get ice cream for dessert.
Uovo only has tiramisu for dessert and the kids always want ice cream, so we'll go to Salt and Straw. When he opened up, he was incredibly excited. What I love about it is that it is unique. The combinations are something you've never heard of, like lavender. They're not the traditional flavors you'd expect in ice cream, which I think is an amazing experience and the kids love it.
7:00 pm Get the kids ready for bed.
We are home at 7 pm Cree can go to bed on his own, thank God. [As for] Cairo, I'll read you a book and give you a bath. She has the whole routine of her: she is very pampered. She has white noise and an air purifier with a scent. She gets a massage every night. She is the princess. Then they go to bed.
8 pm I listen to affirmations until I fall asleep.
I'll shower and do all that kind of stuff, then go to bed. [listening] to affirmations. That's been my new thing. I'm really trying to get enough sleep at night, so I go to bed around 9 or 9:30 p.m.
