SAS has announced plans to operate flights between Copenhagen and Atlanta this summer.
The nonstop route will launch June 17 and will be the airline's ninth North American destination for summer 2024, joining Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami (until April 7), New York (Newark and JFK) , San Francisco, Toronto and Washington DC.
It will operate daily during the summer of 2024, reducing to five flights per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday) for the winter season.
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is a hub for SkyTeam member Delta; In October last year, SAS announced restructuring plans that will see Air France-KLM acquire a stake in the Scandinavian airline, and SAS eventually switch from Star Alliance to SkyTeam.

SAS said that “freight shipping is expected to play an important role on this route, in part due to its proximity to the Port of Savannah, the largest and fastest growing container terminal in the United States.”
Meanwhile, the airline will also increase frequencies on its JFK Copenhagen-New York routes to twice a day this summer, and the airline's Copenhagen-Boston service will increase from six flights weekly to daily. Finally, a fourth weekly flight between Copenhagen and Toronto will be added.
Anko van der Werff, President and CEO of SAS, commented on the news:
“Through an agreement with Delta Air Lines, passengers can continue their travel at other destinations served by Delta outside of Atlanta.
“This development means an expanded offering for SAS passengers, who can expect to reach several new and exciting destinations in the southern US, the Caribbean and Latin America, all conveniently accessible from Atlanta.”
