Rex Airlines to launch Melbourne-Perth route – Business Traveler

Australia's Rex Airlines will launch a new Melbourne-Perth service with its Boeing 737-800 fleet, competing with Qantas and Virgin Australia on the full-service segment of the route.

Rex will fly five days a week between the two cities starting Friday, June 28, offering fares from AU$299 (US$197) each way in economy class and AU$999 in business class.

Rex's 737-800s feature eight lie-flat 2-2 business class seats and 168 3-3 economy class seats.

Warrick Lodge, the airline's general manager of network strategy, said the new service, which is Rex's 11th domestic service with its 737 fleet, will add nearly 90,000 seats to one of the country's busiest routes, which is great news for business, commerce, tourism and travelers.

“When more airlines compete on a particular route, consumers benefit and our track record in domestic markets speaks for itself – Rex offers excellent value for money,” Lodge said.

“Rex consistently eclipses its domestic rivals in on-time and cancellation rates, and when travelers book a route of this distance and duration, reliability is paramount.

“Our competitors canceled a total of 57 flights on this route in the first four months of 2024, while their combined arrival and departure on-time performance was only around 72 percent.”
