Malaysia Airlines prepares for A330 neos and will upgrade A350s – Business Traveler

As part of its ongoing fleet modernization plan, oneworld member Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) will add 12 new aircraft in 2024, including its first Airbus A330-900 (A330 neo), which will arrive in the third quarter of 2024. .

Malaysia Airlines' parent company expects to take delivery of four of the new A330 neos this year, along with eight Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft, to meet its network growth needs.

In August 2022, MAG signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Airbus, Rolls-Royce and Avolon for the acquisition of 20 A330 neo aircraft whose delivery is scheduled until 2028.

Ten of the A330 neo aircraft will be purchased directly from Airbus through a sale and leaseback agreement with leasing company Avolon, while the remaining 10 will be leased directly from Avolon.

Malaysia Airlines will configure the A330 neos with 28 business class suites in a 1-2-1 layout, including individual privacy doors.

The economy class of the A330 neo will have 269 seats, 24 of them with additional legroom.

Malaysia Airlines said this week it would also modernize six of its A350-900s from 2026 to ensure continued cabin standardization in line with the new A330 neo cabin.

MAG currently owns a fleet of 104 units through its subsidiaries Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, MASwings and MASkargo.

“We are excited to introduce the first of 20 Airbus A330neos in the third quarter of this year, which will gradually replace our A330ceo fleet and operate on our network in Asia, Oceania and the Middle East. “This expansion is not just about increasing our inventory in numbers, but also about introducing first-of-its-kind cabin class, new seats and experiences that prioritize safety, comfort and overall customer satisfaction,” said CEO MAG, Datuk Captain Izham Ismail.

“We will continue to channel our investments towards initiatives that strategically align with the key pillars that drive our customer value proposition, namely cabin comfort, in-flight dining and service delivery to our esteemed cabin crew. We aim to create an overall passenger experience that not only meets but exceeds premium standards, backed by our inimitable Malaysian hospitality,” Ismail added.
