KLIA welcomes four new international airlines – Business Traveler

Malaysia welcomed five new international airlines in January and February 2024, including four new airlines that launched or resumed services to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

Air Macau (NX) added a service every four weeks from Macau (MFM); Loong Air (GJ) offers flights three times a week from Hangzhou (HGH); Turkmenistan Airlines (T5) offers twice-weekly service from Ashgabat (ASB); and Iraqi Airways (IA) resumed weekly service to Baghdad (BGW).

Meanwhile, at other airports in the country, flydubai (FZ) now serves Penang International Airport (PEN) and Langkawi International Airport (LGK) daily from Dubai (DXB), and Firefly has also introduced charter flights three times a week from Tawau to Nanjing.

Looking ahead, Malaysia Airports recently said it had identified “17 potential airlines from seven different regions” to launch services to Malaysia.

Last week, SkyTeam member China Eastern Airlines launched new daily service between KLIA and Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province in southern China.

Flights depart Kunming for Kuala Lumpur daily at 5:25 p.m. and arrive in Malaysia at 9:40 p.m. They return from KLIA at 22:40 and arrive in Kunming at 01:55.

China Eastern is the only airline to offer business class services between Kunming and Kuala Lumpur, joining low-cost carriers AirAsia and Batik Air Malaysia, the former Malindo Air, on the route.

China Eastern has included its Airbus A320 aircraft on three-hour flights between Kunming and Kuala Lumpur, including eight lie-flat seats in business class.

The Chinese airline also recently launched a four-weekly service between KLIA and Beijing's Daxing International Airport.
