Oneworld member Japan Airlines (JAL) has announced that it will increase its Airbus fleet with new orders for 21 A350-900s and its first order for Airbus single-aisle aircraft, with a commitment for 11 A321neo aircraft.
The additional A350-900s will fly alongside the A350-1000 on international routes, while the A321neo will operate on JAL's domestic services.
JAL currently has 15 A350-900s, plus three pending from its previous order, flying exclusively on domestic services.
The airline recently took delivery of its first two A350-1000s, and Airbus has ordered a further 11, including new first and business class cabins.
In 2023, JAL finalized an order with Airbus competitor Boeing for 21 737 Max 8 aircraft to replace the Japanese airline's 737-800 fleet starting in 2026.
JAL was founded in 1951 and became Japan's first international airline.
The flag carrier now reaches 411 airports in 60 countries together with its codeshare partners. The JAL Group currently has a fleet of more than 241 aircraft.
