Japan Airlines confirms order for 20 Airbus A350-900s and 11 A321neos
Dark/Light Mode (07/24/24) Japan Airlines (JAL) used this week's Farnborough Air Show in England to confirm a firm order with Airbus for 20 A350-900 wide-body aircraft and 11 A321neo single-aisle aircraft.
The A350-900s will serve international routes, while the A321neo will operate domestic services within Japan.
To date, JAL has ordered a total of 52 A350s, of which 18 are in service. The A321neo contract represents JAL's first order for Airbus' single-aisle product line.

“We are delighted to have signed the firm order for the introduction of more A350 and new A321 aircraft,” said Yukio Nakagawa, CEO and Senior Vice President of Purchasing at Japan Airlines. “We will accelerate the introduction of state-of-the-art, fuel-efficient aircraft to provide our passengers with excellent service and reduce CO2 emissions. We believe this additional introduction of Airbus aircraft will further deepen our partnership.”
By the end of June 2024, the A350 Family had secured more than 1,300 firm orders from 60 customers around the world, making it one of the most successful widebody aircraft in history.
To date, more than 90 customers worldwide have ordered more than 6,400 A321neos.
“We are grateful to Japan Airlines for once again placing their trust in the A350,” said Christian Scherer, CEO of Airbus’ Commercial Aircraft Division. “We are also celebrating a new milestone in our partnership with the airline following their order for the A321neo. We are committed to providing our full support to Japan Airlines as their growing fleet is deployed on more routes across their network, both domestically and internationally.”
Like all Airbus aircraft, the A350 can already operate on up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and the company is working towards being 100% SAF-capable by 2030.
