India eases regulation of seaplane services


Seaplane services can improve connectivity to remote areas, boost tourism and facilitate emergency responses. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has revamped regulatory provisions for seaplane operations in India, which is expected to boost the untapped seaplane market. The relaxations include easier installation of water aerodromes, revised pilot qualifications and simplified infrastructure procedures. With these relaxed norms, industry experts predict a bright future for seaplane operations in India.

 

The updated regulatory framework, established in 2008, reduces infrastructure costs and burdens on these operators and simplified training requirements create employment opportunities.
