Iberia has followed sister airline British Airways into Avios-only flights.

BA first launched the Avios-Only initiative last yearwith initial routes from Gatwick to Sharm El Sheikh and Heathrow to Geneva.

These were soon followed by Avios-only flights. to Las Palmas, Lanzarote, Tenerife and Niceso Florence, Mallorca, Faro, Corfu and Ibiza, Dubaiand more recently Barbados and Geneva.

Iberia has now launched its own Iberia Plus flights and has booked selected services from Madrid to Santorini and Catania for Avios redemptions by Iberia Plus members.

Flights depart Madrid for Santorini on July 7 (with return service on July 14), and for Catania on July 27 (with return service on August 3).

Iberia says that members of the Iberia Plus loyalty program can redeem on the Catania service from 2,100 Avios plus €73.80 each way, up to a maximum of 8,250 Avios plus €23.80, and on Santorini flights from 2,750 Avios plus €83.80 up to a maximum of 11,000 Avios plus €23.80.

BA Executive Club members can transfer Avios to/from Iberia Plus accounts, as long as the Iberia Plus account is more than 90 days old and has earned at least one Avios.
