How to have the best Sunday in Los Angeles, according to Amanda Gorman

Growing up in Westchester, Sundays from Amanda Gorman dedicated themselves to one thing: the church.

“I went to a historically black church and I feel that it is always an occasion to go to Church as African American,” says Gorman, 27, who became the youngest inaugural poet in the history of the United States in 2021. “You dress in your best Sunday and you will be there for several hours.”

On Sunday Funday, the people of Los Angeles give us a play per game of their ideal Sunday in the city. Find ideas and inspiration about where to go, what to eat and how to enjoy life on weekends.

These days, his Sundays are not completely dedicated to the Church, but the poet, activist and author says that those first years taught him the importance of intentionally carving the time to spend with loved ones and be in the community.

“He can be meeting with some friends with whom you have not summoned in a long time,” says Gorman, who became the poet Laureado Youth of Los Angeles at 16 in 2014 and the First laureate national youth poet Three years later. “You can spend time with your pets. You can go to the reading club you love, but find something in which you can get what it is to be a human being. I think I still try to translate it into my Sundays.”

Gorman will make his second appearance at the Los Angeles Times Book Festival on April 26, where he will talk about his third book, “Girls on the Rise”, released this year. Harvard's graduate began writing the children's book in 2018 after he saw Christine Blasey Ford, who accused Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh to sexually assault her when they were teenagers, he testified to the Judicial Committee of the Senate.

“I just remember being so beaten by his courage, courage and truth,” says Gorman. “He made me think of the next generation of young women, girls and non -binary boys, who would also be telling their truth in a patriarchal society. So I wanted to write a book that created a safe space for girls and their allies to feel a sense of kinship.”

On his ideal Sunday in Los Angeles, Gorman dated his dog, Kenny (called Kendrick Lamar), would visit his favorite bookstores, would enjoy the afternoon tea as a character of “Bridgerton” and hit a roof.

10 am: embrace brunch vibrations at home

If I can sleep until 10 in the morning, it's like a miracle, a magical day for me. I love taking extra time on a Sunday. Breakfast is my favorite and maybe my main food of the day if I'm honest. So I will forge on Sunday as my day to really waste at my breakfast. Maybe I will do some French toast. I have been stunning and making a gluten -free French toast with some good seeds, vanilla, cinnamon and berries. Then I will make some vegetarian empanadas and I will have some other fruit. I will also do a little hot chocolate and then organize the program “The Great British Bake off” while I am cooking, so that I can really luxuriar in the vibrations of Sunday Chill. I almost started the day with as much brunch energy as I can.

12:30 pm: get a little sun

I would love to get some sun, so I would go to the beach. I love taking a walk with my friends throughout the LOS SANTA MÓNICAon the north side because it is a little less full.

3 PM: Live my fantasy 'Bridgerton'

At this time, I would be hungry and ready for lunch. If I was on the beach, there is a restaurant that I like Ivy on the shorea little close to Third street walk. You can eat and see the sunset. They have a good salad. I have also achieved very good enchiladas there, and fish and fries.

Or would go to Peninsula. For my birthday, I just made an afternoon tea on the Peninsula. It was so nice and it was worth it. I feel that if someone wants to waste a Sunday, go. They have an harpist, tea, sandwiches and buns, so it would probably spend the rest of my afternoon there in my dream, ideal day. You can sit in your living room, which has these beautiful and colorful sofa sofas or these elegant corner chairs. They have music playing and butlers dressed in very glare. One of my friends wore a fascinator. He wore lace gloves. I said: “Come in your aura 'Bridgerton'.” It really feels like “Bridgerton” because in the program, they have the instrumentalists playing modern songs and Rihanna in the harp I love that mixture of the contemporary with the classic and Bougie.

5:30 PM: Postle in a bookstore

He would then go to The last bookstore in Dtla o Chevalier books In Larchmont. The last bookstore has a fascinating and picturesque maze of used and new books, and Chevalier's is a cozy and intimate library with nearby stores and coffees.

7 PM: Take a second wind in a Restaurante de la Alfotea

I would probably go home, but if I had a second wind of energy, there are some really pleasant restaurants that I like in West Hollywood. There is Catch the angels and Perch. Both are really cute and dazzling roof places to go after the sun has set. Catch has a chocolate cake Tons of people love to take videos of that and publish it because it is a real moment.

10 pm: 'Great British Bake Off' and TEA

I probably be at home, seeing more “British bake off”, “The Office” or something cozy, making me a tea and reading of chamomile. That is also what I love doing on Sundays because I feel it is very difficult to find time today, in the modern era, to get away from the screen and involve stories and text messages. I was reading this book that is really fun for me called “How to kill your family.” [Laughs] I thought, I feel that my family is going to see me reading this as thanksgiving and I think I have become deranged, but it is this dark thriller comedy that was published in the United Kingdom, I just finished it and I thought it was funny. By the way, it is not a step by step guide. It is more a narrative of a character's trip [laughs].

11 PM: Bernero

He stops the elaborate night routines because I think they are difficult to maintain and maintain. I try to do it as simple as possible, which gives me a good routine for me and my dog. So my night routine would be to take a walk to my dog and make sure you have time to urinate and do all the things of nature. Read, have chamomile tea and maybe doing a slow restorative yoga for 10 minutes or meditation. I wear the humidifier with essential oils, I lift the lights and try to have the last hour without blue light, sugar, food, and keep it really calm and soft. I also like listening to crib music, which makes me sound like a fetus, but helps me overcome my insomniac tendencies. I like this artist, Priscilla Ahn, who has really relaxing albums that are good for all ages. So, honestly, I will listen to the reproduction lists of Disney's princess with songs like “”So this is love” [by Ilene Woods and Mike Douglas]All those soft and cozy things. I try to be on bed at 11:30 pm
